This session consisted of primarily
working on the feedback we had received from session 5. This is done to
help guide is in the direction of making it look a good quality to the
audience as well as meeting our own targets. The session including shots
focusing more on the narrative side will help us meet the requirements of
a stereotypical music video.
Working around and filling in spaces from sessions 5 heavy lip syncing synchronising, we added as many shots as we could. Including more of the band members as asked. The tools used were blade. This is because we wanted to include as many as we could and splitting the shots up and using different parts of the same shot at different points helped us achieve this. Also, we used the transition tools to include fades at the end of the music video. This was done to match the audio of Wonderwall and more dramatic effect (Goodwin's theory). This is because enigma is created as Lucy's eyes are seen looking at the audience to kind of say that she can see and identify you but you can’t. This adds to the enigma and dramatic effect as the semantic and symbolic codes are used from Barthes' codes. This is because people would become aggregated as they want to know who I am singing about and what the song means. This makes the audience engage with the text and question meaning encoding and decoding (Halls' theory).
Also, to add to the binary opposition side of the narrative, the more shots of Lucy and the band used showed the difference in location. This is because Lucy is at a water front of as pond which is heavily linked with rural areas. Also, the band are recorded with a brick wall background and that being heavily linked to urban areas. This helped us portray the relationship between working class to urban areas and higher classes in rural areas. This helps us make the meaning of song aimed at social barriers stopping relationships between social classes. with the lyrics 'There are many things that I Would like to say to you but I don't know how' helps enforce this.
After adding the shots, were watched the final product carefully trying to spot errors. We made sure cuts were smooth and would not produce a black screen flash. This helped us make it look more professional and to a good standard. Once this was done we reviewed at a second time to make sure we didn't miss any transitions out. This helped us display that are music video was a good quality.
Overall, during this editing session we completed a rough edit of our music video. We used several tools to help us accomplish this. The aim of this session was to emphasise how key the narrative was focusing on non-performing parts of the music video to help make it look like a proper, industry standard music video. We used several theories to help guide us in the direction we wanted and audience feedback to make sure that are target audience would like it. This rough edit will be shown are focus group we took to gain guidance on any aspects that could be improved and help decide our final product.
