Evaluation Question 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

What have you learned from your audience feedback?
I conducted audience research to help me match my target audience and gain constructive criticism and advice to progress and improve my products throughout the course.,

I started by creating a survey monkey to get to understand our audience. This was done to see who we were aiming the music video at and make sure it matched their needs. I felt this didn't work collecting quantitative data due to lack of opinion and it didn't help develop answers we were looking for. We decided to go and use qualitative techniques to record the data.

We further developed on this issue, by interviewing people in a focus group to find out their opinions on the genre and their thoughts on our song choice and what to do with the music video. The reason for this was to broaden our ideas and help see different perspectives and angles to inspire us in the final product.

I further continued by gaining feedback after every editing posts from the same people of different age ranges we wanted, i.e. parents for the original Britpop audience, subsidiary target audience and friends for holly wood demographic, main target audience. Again this helped develop ideas and gave constructive criticism to help develop ideas. This was in quantitative feedback and we listened to all points but focused on repeated points. In the early stages of development, we found lip sync to be an issue and the audience feedback helped inform us of this. It also created ideas such as transitions to be included too. This was done after every editing session, showing them a video of what we have done on last sessions feedback and then ask them what we could improve for the next session.

Similarly, I started by placing it after my editing sessions when doing the ancillary tasks. I found this effective the first time around with the production of the music video as it helped guide me into the right direction to edit my videos to the audience and genres needs. So I did it again in the ancillary after every editing post. The guidance given was to change fonts as they weren't too simple and make the vinyl cover more square. Without this feedback I would have left it as it was.

I discovered that qualitative research was better than quantitative. This is because people could express and further develop opinions of what they thought could be included. whereas quantitative research restricted this. Survey monkey felt like a good idea but it didn't guide us and I felt it was better for quantitative research to be done in order to make progress and fully understand what was meant from there feedback.

Editing Log - Session 3 - Improvements

Editing Log - Session 3 - Improvements:
Editing session 3 on ancillaries primarily consisted of working on improvements that I discovered from audience feedback from the Hollywood demographic. They said that fonts, vinyl shape and cd tray placement was to be worked upon.

I changed my font from Superclarendon to American Typewriter as it was plain and standard font which represents the Britpop genre. I also changed the shape of the vinyl cover to a more square shape rather than rectangular shape that was previously. This was done in order to make it look more realistic as if it was the actual product in real life in front of you. I also moved the dic tray from top left to the top middle of my digital so it would also be in the correct place as if it was a product sat directly in front of me.

Overall, this post is to summarise the changes and reasons for the changes to my rough ancillary tasks in order to gain constructive criticism to gain maximum potential of the product.
